History: |
This is a very simple pattern to tie and the use of hackle is optional. I have used it without a hackle and it works just fine. Begin tying in the tail by removing the tip. Cut off enough so that the tip of the feather can be used as part of the wing. When securing the tail pull back the fibers and secure. The feather fibers splay out and this represents the shuck of the emerging insect. The finished fly is not as pleasing to look at compared to a conventional dry fly, however the fish take this emerger readily. The body material and colour is the tiers choice. Black, brown and gray dun work well most of the time. The wing is two or three feather tips tied in together and sloped backwards similar to a wing on a wet fly. Remember this fly does not need any floatant. To dry simply false cast two or three times. |
