The Witless Bay and Area Conservation Group was the recipient of the 2008 Guenter Behr Atlantic Salmon Conservation award. The award was presented to WBACG President Pat Harte by SAEN President Greg Billard at the Salmon Association of Eastern Newfoundland (SAEN) annual Moose Stew Supper on November 14, 2008.
The group earned the award for their willingness to come forward and take stewardship of the Witless Bay River system, its fish stocks and their habitat. This river system is the home of world class, trophy sized, sea run brown trout and wild Atlantic salmon. Without a stewardship group to protect this priceless recreational resource from poaching, over exploitation and habitat destruction, this valuable resource could easily be destroyed and loss for ever.
SAEN is pleased to present this award to the Witless Bay and Area Conservation Group.
This is the 29th presentation of the Guenter Behr Salmonid Conservation Award to individuals or organization who have demonstrated outstanding conservation or protection activities related to our trout and salmon stocks. Guenter Behr was a founding member of SAEN and one of the organizations most dedicated conservationists. The award is presented annually in his memory.
